As the sun rises over the horizon waking the world to a new day, its rays pierce through the slats of the blinds waking me to a new day. In the momentary stillness, time is suspended in bemusement. THE question becomes the alarm that jars my senses into reality as questions chase after the second hand ticking away on the clock on the wall. The pounding reminder that time is slipping away hammers in my heart that she slipped away. Why did she do it?
Why did she do it? Why did she allow me to get so close to her and her son if she wasn’t in it for the long haul? Is that fair to me or to her son? Why did she tell me she wanted to get married if she wasn’t committed to me? Why did she spend all that time looking at houses for us to buy–together–if she was just playing games–with my heart?
Why did she do it? Why did she tell me she loved me and make plans for a future together, when her present was filled with other men? Why did she let me walk out the door and not pursue me, if she loved me and wanted a future with me?
As the sun rises over the horizon waking the world to a new day, its rays pierce through the slats of the blinds waking me to a new day. In the momentary stillness, time is suspended in fear. THE thought becomes the alarm that jars my senses into reality as questions chase after the second hand ticking away on the clock on the wall. The pounding reminder that time is slipping away hammers in my mind, “Because I am not good enough.”
This one made me sad.
Indeed. The betrayed heart is never easy, either to experience or to witness. Even less so when the one who is experiencing it is someone you care about. Unfortunately there can be more questions in life than answers readily apparent, particularly so if you are not aware of the One who is in control of it all.
You are very right. Love is a painful thing at times, yet when it is working out, it is the most beautiful of things, too. This piece was very hauntingly beautiful!
