The Currency of Love

Some feel love when gifts are received.  Some feel love when they are showered with acts of kindness.  Some feel love when quality time has been shared.  Still others feel love through the blessing of physical touch.  And there are those who feel love by words of affirmation.  The need to feel love is universal; the currency through which it flows is not.

As one whose love tank is filled by words of affirmation and quality, undivided time even in small amounts, it is easy for me to feel unloved when I receive neither.  As one whose love tank is filled by words of affirmation and quality, undivided time even in small amounts, it is easy for me to feel a person of value although it may be a stranger lingering to have a chat across separate tables at a restaurant or perhaps it is an acquaintance of colorful character sharing a bit of tightly controlled time and an abundance of loosely flowing flattery.

The currency of love is different and unique for each individual.  The exchange rate fluctuates with the persons involved as well as the availability or the lack of love.  What we are willing to pay for how much is available is as potent and volatile as the fortunes made and loss on Wall Street.

The currency of love is different and unique for each individual yet the need to feel love is universal.  Speak the langauge of the one you love and they will be valued and esteemed.  Be aware of what you speak should you inadvertently be depleting the love account of another.  Be vigilant that should your reserves reach an emergency level to not replenish with a counterfeit currency.

People say the reason for the season is love.  The holiday season is most certainly here.  Choose wisely and with discernment those you wish to give to and give them the gifts that speak love.  Do not be stingy and do not give grudgingly.  Give from deep pockets filled with the currency of love.
