Bound Hand and Foot

Yesterday he walked away.
This good-bye is forever.
This rejection feels for all eternity.
Starting over you will be, full of nought but misery.

As the day draws to a close,
the setting sun withdraws its warmth.
Alone again facing the dark night you will be.
Bound hand and foot, options you do not see.

Lean not on your own understanding.
Toil not in your own strength.
There is One Who when bound hand and foot,
rose again to claim the victory.

Today the landlord rang.
He outlined how far you are behind.
Johnny’s teacher wrote a note.
She suggested a tutor, and questioned how to make him mind.

Tomorrow is the final court date.
The verdict will not return her life.
Delusions from drugs, anger and anxiety
motivated the murderer to take your wife.

The One Who was bound hand and foot,
Who rose again to claim the victory,
was not a victim and was not helpless
but lay aside His power temporarily for you and for me.

The One Who was bound hand and foot,
Who rose again to claim the victory,
gave His life knowingly and willingly
With perfect Love in His heart, imperfect you and me in mind.

So lean not on your own understanding.
His Grace is sufficient for you and for me.
His Power is perfected in our weaknesses.
In His strength is the victory.
