Desperate Love

In the trenches I have been,
deep in ditches,
a friend of life in the dirt.

The sun was my blanket,
warding off the chill from the wind,
a warrior vulnerable to the elements.

Home I am bound,
with torn clothes and blistered hands,
a soldier battle weary.

Desperate Love is all I have,
nothing else have I to cling,
a pauper in this life.

The Son is my blanket.
warding off the arrows of the enemy,
His child within the armor of Desperate Love.

Home I am bound,
this journey I am in,
a traveler I am weary.

Desperate Love is all I have,
nothing else will withstand,
His child carried within the arms of Desperate Love.
