Until It Hurts

Imagine, if you will, being squeezed by the arms of a 4-year-old and having your face buried in her blonde hair.  Imagine, if you will, being squeezed by little arms that refuse to let go while her blue eyes are flooded with tears.  Imagine, if you will, being squeezed with trusting arms while her lips quiver with fear of letting go.  Imagine, if you will, of being loved until it hurts.

Her little world has just been turned upside down and now she is full of questions and uncertainty, betrayal and fear.  And she is having to leave again a safe place with which she is familiar.  She is learning how to love until it hurts.

Imagine, if you will, of leaving home and heaven to be a sojourner upon the earth.  The Father’s presence and voice are always with you but now there are new faces and hands watching you, cuddling you.  There are new voices teaching you and directing you.  There is a new authority guiding you.  Imagine, if you will, of being loved until it hurts.  Imagine learning how to love until it hurts.
