Expectant Waiting

The season of Expectant Waiting is fast approaching as the cold winds of winter blow in.  Frigid nights of icy temps make us huddle deep within our warm houses and bundles of heavy apparel.  With the ushering in of winter, those whose bodies bear the burden of frailty and wounds feel vulnerable and exposed especially so.

The season of Expectant Waiting is fast approaching as wood, plastic, wire and felt hammer out melodious tunes.  Hands of talent tickle the keys and notes of Peace, Hope and Joy fill the air.  Hearts swell with the Promise of the Coming One and voices like angels give rise to the song of the Holy One.

The season of Expectant Waiting is fast approaching but when the music stops and the song is silent, the tongue reveals what truly is in the human heart.  Words tumble out unbidden and unguarded as the reality of life on earth takes hold of heart, mind and mouth.

The season of Expectant Waiting is fast approaching and with it comes fatigue setting in from being over extended in the preparation.  The tongue stumbles over words well known as minds give in to weariness.  Hearts quiver with unspoken burdens and elusive security.  The bitter winds of humanity sweep into every home.

The season of Expectant Waiting is fast approaching.  We are troubled and taxed on every side.  In body we carry a lot of weight within our world and community and with our tongue we choose to crucify revealing pride and superiority, or to serve and to encourage according to our humility.

The season of Expectant Waiting is fast approaching.  May the preparation we pursue not be a rehearsal for a night of performance but a relationship leading to holiness.  May dew drops of mercy coat our tongues even in our laughter and in our humor.  May our open mouths usher in the advent of His presence.
