Immediate Response Needed

When the rains pour, the snow falls, the winds rage and the fires consume, immediate response is needed.  Come quickly, come one and all.  An emergency has arisen, lives and homes are threatened and immediate response is needed.

When hearts enlarge and fail, when lungs are full of fluid and void of air, when poison races through the body and when a baby is about to be born, immediate response is needed.  Come quickly, come one and all.  An emergency has arisen, a life is at risk and immediate response is needed.

When the bitter winter bites, when the summer heat swelters, when the cupboard is bare, when the bullets fly and when the blows take a toll, immediate response is needed.  Come quickly, come one and all.  An emergency has arisen, health is endangered and immediate response is needed.

But what happens when our finances have a slow leak or our marriage silently disintegrates?  Immediate response is needed, yet we wait until there is nothing to salvage.  But what happens when our children are at high risk in their learning and development or with their friends and recreational activities?  Immediate response is needed, yet we wait until an illegal offense has been committed before we notice them.

But what happens when our ability to move physically has been surrendered to our unwillingness to be active? Immediate response is needed, yet we wait for something to ease the discomfort of disability.  But what happens when our homes and our livelihood are being taken from us as we pursue a habit that destroys us?  Immediate response is needed, yet we wait until our dependence eats us alive.

But what happens when our hearts are hardened and our eyes cannot see past the bitterness and cynicism and so each and every decision we make is fear and anger based?  Immediate response is needed, yet we build the walls of our own solitary confinement.  But what happens when the loss of hope and the weight of despair shields us from seeing Truth and believing in Promises?  Immediate response is needed, yet we lie in wait until death comes to claim us.
