For Many Days Now

For many days now, the man you are
has heard incessant noise and chaos.

For many days now, the woman you are
has known and seen turmoil and suffering.

For many days now, the One and True God
has heard and has seen exactly who you are.

For many days now, you have learned
to turn to HIM for peace and for healing.

For many days now, you have fought
to win the fight and run to win the race.

For many days now, the fight has raged
senselessly and the race has diverted unfairly.

For many days now, you have reached
still for the goal of only bringing glory to HIM.

For many days now, HE has believed in you
just as you are in weakness and in strength.

For many days now, HE has loved you
just as you are heavy with darkness and with sin.

For many days now, HE has rejoiced in you
just as you are glorious with righteousness and in freedom.

For many days now, you may still be asked
to march onward Christian soldiers.

For many days now, you could be called
to pray for those who bring to you mayhem and sorrow.

For many days now, you perhaps will be prodded
to rest and to be still in sovereign protection and wisdom.

For many days now, I have watched you be like the man
after God’s heart even though Uriah lingered in the sidelines.

But what was beautiful and good was not sought after
at the price of another’s death and shame.

Applause and advancement have often gone to others
as Uriah you lay quietly with your back against the door to rebellion.

For many days now, I have observed you to be a woman
of virtue, industrious in service and in love.

What comes to your world in sickness and in need
you minister to and guide in knowledge and in faith.

Hidden and soiled beauty fills the hours of your day
yet you clean and care for all with dignity and with grace.
For many days now, when others pander for me to submit to them,
it is you who have inspired, encouraged and taught me.

For many days now, though some have ridiculed and oppressed
it is you who have walked, talked and laughed along side me.

For many days now, no one can declare what tomorrow will bring
but for many tomorrows, you and I will forget our many days now.
