If it is meant for me to live
to be a hundred years old
upon this earth where I walk
and crawl, then I have made
it already halfway home.
Some may say
that I’m over the hill
but the reality is
that the opposite is true
for life here has no peak.
My younger days have passed
as well as the glory and fame
that shadowed a different place
and time yet there is still more
to come, perhaps just less notoriety.
Being halfway home, that alone
brings much joy and peace
as I look ahead to the
mountains and valleys I’ve
still to climb, perhaps more slowly.
My twisted footprints I’ve left behind
you will easily find in the dirt,
mud and sand but look up
and ahead if you really want
to follow with me, one step at a time.

My younger days are not gone. I am just more.
